Press Release: Campaign for 25% Voter Turnout in 2025

Last Updated: 10/9/2025

October 9, 2025 The Tioga County Board of Elections is challenging all Tioga County voters to cast a vote in this November’s General Election! Help the Board of Elections meet a voter turnout goal of at least 25% in 2025!

“Local elections allow voters to have a say where tax dollars are spent and which projects are prioritized where they live,” said Kelly A. Johnson, Commissioner of the Tioga County Board of Elections. “By voting, residents can support candidates who align with their values and priorities, ensuring that local government addresses the issues that matter most to them.”

For the 2023 local elections, Tioga County had only 17% voter turnout. In comparison, the 2024 presidential election saw over 70% voter turnout in Tioga County. While local elections may not be as charismatic and exciting as larger-scale contests, such as for president or governor, they are just as important.

“Local elections determine who makes the decisions that directly impact our communities,” said Amber Duke, Deputy Commissioner of Elections. “Voting in local elections is our civic responsibility.”

“Local elections have the most profound impact on our everyday lives and community,” said James Hoover, Deputy Commissioner of Elections. “These are the elections where an individual’s vote carries the most weight.”  This is because with lower turnout and fewer voters overall at local elections, each vote makes a bigger difference.

“Voting is the foundation of the democratic process,” said James C. E. Wahls, Commissioner of the Tioga County Board of Elections. “As U.S. citizens, we have a duty to participate in this process for every level of government.”

The Board of Elections reminds voters that if they cannot make it to the polls on November 4th, there are nine days of Early Voting from October 25th to November 2nd at 1062 State Route 38 in Owego, or voters can apply for a mail ballot. New voters must make sure they are registered to vote by October 25th to be eligible to vote in this election.

Tioga County voters should call 607-687-8261 to learn more about their voting options or other election information.
